Privacy and terms
Privacy policy and terms of use
How Cars with Causes and Giving Center handle the information you give us, and the terms that apply to using this site. Written to be read rather than skimmed past.
What we collect
When you submit a donation form we collect what you enter: your name, phone number, email address, the location of the item, details about the item itself, any notes you add, and any photographs you upload. Only name, phone and email are required.
When you browse the site we collect standard technical information through analytics: pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, device and browser type, and how you arrived. This is aggregate measurement rather than a profile of you.
How we use it, and what we will never do with it
Your information is used to process your donation: to call you back, arrange pickup, complete the title transfer, sell the item and issue your receipt and Form 1098-C. It is also used for the tax reporting the IRS requires of us.
- We do not sell your information. Not to lead brokers, not to dealers, not to anyone.
- We do not share it with other charities or rent it as a mailing list.
- We do not use it for paid advertising. We invest in outcomes, not ad campaigns, so there is no ad platform receiving your details.
- We may contact you about your donation, and occasionally about Giving Center's work. You can ask us to stop at any time and we will.
Who else sees it
Only the parties who have to, and only what they need:
- Transport providers receive your name, phone number and the pickup location so the driver can reach you.
- Auction houses and buyers receive information about the item, not about you.
- State motor vehicle agencies, the FAA and the Coast Guard receive what the transfer filing requires.
- The IRS receives what Form 1098-C requires.
- Service providers that host the site, deliver email and provide spam protection, under agreements limiting their use of it.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect against fraud.
Cookies, analytics and bot protection
This site uses cookies for basic function and for analytics that tell us which pages are useful. Forms are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a submission comes from a person rather than a script; it sets a token for that purpose. You can block cookies in your browser, and the site will still work, though some measurement will be incomplete.
Your choices and your rights
- Ask what information we hold about you, and receive a copy.
- Ask us to correct anything inaccurate.
- Ask us to delete your information, subject to the records we are legally required to retain for tax reporting.
- Ask us to stop contacting you.
- Residents of California and other states with privacy statutes have additional rights, including the right to know what is collected and to opt out of any sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.
To exercise any of these, call (888) 228-7320 and ask. We will verify who you are before acting on a request.
Retention and security
Donation records are retained as long as tax and charitable reporting rules require, and no longer than necessary after that. Analytics data is retained on a rolling basis. We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we hold, though no system connected to the internet can be guaranteed absolutely secure.
Terms of use
The content of this site is provided for general information about vehicle donation. It is not tax, legal or financial advice, and it does not create a professional relationship. Tax rules change and individual circumstances differ; consult a qualified adviser about your own return.
- Nothing on this site is an offer to accept a particular donation. Acceptance depends on the item, its condition, its location and the paperwork available.
- No deduction amount is promised. For a vehicle the charity sells, your deduction is based on the gross sale proceeds, reported on Form 1098-C.
- By submitting a form you confirm that the information is accurate to your knowledge and that you have the authority to transfer the item.
- You retain ownership until you sign the title or transfer document at pickup. Nothing is binding before that point.
- Site content, text and layout are the property of Giving Center. Please do not reproduce them without permission.
