Donate a car, truck or piece of equipment. We handle the tow, the title and the tax form.
Whether it is a sedan you no longer drive, an excavator sitting idle since the last job, or a tractor that came with a family farm, the process is the same: tell us about it, we arrange pickup, and Form 1098-C arrives after the sale.
- Towing, transport and title work covered by Giving Center.
- Pickup nationwide, including equipment that needs a lowboy.
- A straight answer about your deduction before you commit.

Form 1098-C arrives after the sale
It states the gross proceeds, which is the figure you deduct in most cases. Within 30 days of sale, ready for your return.
Know what your deduction will be before you sign anything
Some sites promise "full fair market value." For most donated vehicles that is not how the IRS works, and we would rather you hear it from us first.
When Giving Center sells your vehicle, your deduction is the gross sale proceeds shown on Form 1098-C. Fair market value applies only in specific cases: the vehicle sells for under $500, the charity uses it substantially, materially improves it, or transfers it below market to someone in need.
For claims above $5,000, the IRS requires a qualified appraisal that you arrange and pay for, so the appraiser is independent of us. We will tell you when that applies.
Giving Center does not provide tax, legal or financial advice. Donations are deductible to the extent allowed by law. See IRS Publication 4303 and consult a tax professional.
Your vehicle becomes help that reaches a family directly
Giving Center has been at this since 2005, funding its programs with donated property rather than asking for cash. Four of those programs are below; the car you no longer need is how the work gets paid for.
Donors tell us the relief was the part they did not expect
Words from people who have already done this, in their own voice.
I got a new truck and instead of the hassle of trying to sell my Ford F-450 I gave it to your charity and had no issues. The tow guy looked through the truck before he took it and found a crumpled up $20 bill stuck under the seat and handed it to me. Talk about honesty. I will definitely remember you guys the next time I am ready to donate.
My husband and I donated our late 80s Southwind RV a few months ago. We had been trying to sell it for over seven months and I think due to its age no one was interested, even with only 36,000 miles on it, always stored, and the appliances, heater and generator all new. You had someone come pick it up, it started right up and they drove it away. Great thing is you sold it for more than we were asking.
My pops and I planned on restoring an old International pickup my grandpa bought new in the 50s and just never got around to it. Pops caught covid and has not been the same since. We decided it was best to just donate the truck and that is what I did. Sad to see it go but happy with how easy you made everything.

The questions donors ask before they call
Short answers here. The full FAQ covers taxes, titles, pickup and what happens after.
How quickly can you pick up my vehicle?
Usually within a few business days of your form or call, scheduled around you. Heavy equipment that needs a lowboy or permits can take longer, and we tell you the timeline before anything is booked.
What can I deduct?
In most cases, the gross proceeds when Giving Center sells the vehicle, reported to you on Form 1098-C. If it sells for under $500 you may deduct the lesser of fair market value or $500. Claims over $5,000 need a qualified appraisal you arrange. Details on the tax benefits page.
Is there any cost to me?
Towing, transport, title transfer and IRS filing are covered by Giving Center. The one expense that can fall to you is a qualified appraisal when your claim exceeds $5,000; the IRS requires that you choose and pay the appraiser so the valuation is independent.
My car does not run, or I have no title. Can I still donate?
Often, but we will be candid. A non-running vehicle with a long tow can return little after fees, and a missing title has to be resolved before sale. The form asks both questions so we can tell you the realistic outcome up front, including when a local yard paying cash would do more good.
Do you take equipment, not just cars?
Yes, and it is where a donation goes furthest. Excavators, skid steers, boom lifts, box trucks, farm tractors and similar machines are transported on the right trailer and sold to buyers who use them. Start at construction equipment donations.
Who actually receives the money?
Giving Center, the 501(c)(3) named on your receipt. We invest in outcomes rather than ad campaigns, so sale proceeds after towing and liquidation fund the programs described on where the money goes.
Ready when you are
Two minutes on the form, or one phone call. Either way, someone who does this every day picks it up from there.
